Fox-IT – Cyber experts who secured Netherlands-hosted NATO Summit

Securing the 2025 NATO Summit: what did it take?

Trusted by leading governments and organizations for over 20 years

During the recent NATO summit in The Hague - Netherlands, Fox-IT was on the front line against digital threats as a key cyber security partner. Our experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fox-IT have shared their experiences, reflections and insights on protecting one of the most important international events of the year.

The eyes of the world were upon us

Our team knew securing the NATO Summit would be a unique and complex challenge. The unique risks, both digital and physical, required a flexible and in-depth approach. We were able to deliver a world-class level of security, while applying the same principles that apply to organizations with less extreme threats.

Preparations ahead of the Summit

Ahead of the Summit, we conducted a detailed, on‑site security assessment built around a bespoke strategic security model. Three expert red teamers worked full‑time for months, continuously attacking systems, applications and infrastructure to uncover vulnerabilities under extreme time pressure.

Their findings directly informed remediation, enabling issues to be fixed immediately rather than in phases. This was reinforced by an in‑depth threat analysis, a comprehensive site survey of all connected equipment, on‑site SOC monitoring and a standby cyber incident response team.

Accomplishing the mission

Fox‑IT’s cyber incident response team and the plan we put in place alongside the Ministry for Foreign Affairs ensured vulnerabilities were not only identified but immediately resolved.

With a clear, rehearsed response plan and all teams on‑site, Fox‑IT could act without delay. For NATO Summit organizers, this seamless integration of prevention, detection and response delivered continuous control, confidence and uninterrupted operations throughout the event.
