Derek Gordon, Global Identity Access Management VP at NCC Group said:
“While digital IDs will no longer be mandatory, it’s still crucial that their inherent security risks are tackled proactively.
“Digital IDs store sensitive personal information, including home addresses, dates of birth and other identifying data, making them potentially valuable targets to cyber criminals. If accessed, these details could be used to commit identity theft, fraud or be resold on the black market.
“To safeguard digital IDs, it is critical to implement strong identity governance frameworks. For example, strong authentication, granular authorisation controls and encryption can strengthen protections, alongside continuous monitoring for potential threats. Regular collaboration with cyber security experts can ensure vulnerabilities are promptly identified and addressed.”
