Apple protects Mac computers against virus

Apple is releasing an update for XProtect, a built-in MacOS virus removal tool that is supposed to protect systems against the Snake spyware. Fox-IT researchers discovered the Mac version of Snake in May last year, reports.

Fox-IT researchers discovered the Snake version through VirusTotal, the online Google virus scanner that people can use to test suspicious files by running them through a large number of virus scanners. The issue was a version in which the debug functionality was still enabled. The Snake malware was in a zip file that contained a backdoored version of the Adobe Flash Player installer.
