Last week, Ronald Prins of Fox-IT gave a guest lecture on cyber security to graduate students of Newman College in Breda (Netherlands). The students were surprised and excited about cyber security and hacking and were amazed how easy it is to gain access to sensitive information. They also tried ‘hands-on’ hacking of surveillance cameras, webcams and wind turbines.
Geef IT Door
This was the first cyber security guest lecture for ‘Geef IT Door’ – a nationwide campaign to fight the shortage of qualified IT professionals.
“You wouldn’t expect such a high profile executive to make time for us. I hope he is going to do this more often. It really stimulated us, everyone found his lecture interesting and wanted to join in”, said student Joost Wade. “It was very interesting to see how vulnerable we really are on the internet. Most people don’t give this enough thought”, said another student.
“Mr. Prins said that he used to work a lot with computers and that he was a spy for the AIVD (Dutch intelligence agency). So this is not just a hobby, he really is an expert. We discussed what type of internet activities are actually punishable by law. And then we got to the exciting part: hands-on hacking”, said student Bryan de Vet excited.
