The Dutch Government proposes more legal power to tackle online criminals. A new law would allow law enforcement to ‘hack back’. Privacy watchers, however, consider this a slippery slope.
EenVandaag spoke to Quirine Eijkman of Leiden University. She is part of a group of 29 leading scientists who wrote a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives in which they express their concerns about the lack of safeguards in this new law.
Ronald Prins of Fox-IT does not share this concerns. “We are far behind compared to countries where similar laws have proven to be effective. And the law contains guarantees to safeguard our privacy.”
Prins also calls for a review of the law after two years.
