Various internet experts have proposed to build a large moat between the Dutch internet and the rest of the world, to be able to raise the bridge when a DDoS attack occurs. Fox-IT’s Erik de Jong warns that this is easier said than done. When foreign countries are disconnected from the Netherlands, the Netherlands is also partly excluded from the rest of the world. ‘Anyone who uses a cloud service outside the Netherlands may be affected. You should only create a moat if the interests you want to protect are big enough’, says Erik de Jong.
