Cyberattacks on port facilities

Our dependency on IT is growing. This also applies to the port of Rotterdam. The Rotterdam Port Authority seeks a centralised approach in which weaknesses are discussed, to lower these risks. Fox-IT CEO Ronald Prins tells NRC Handelsblad he thinks there should be a central network control center.

Growing dependency on IT

With the growing dependency, the cyber security risks are increasing. At the moment, every company in the port runs its own cyber security. Prins says this should change, and that companies should improve collaboration. Bigger companies are aware of the importance of securing their primary processes, but for smaller businesses, cyber security often has low priority. A central control center could solve this problem. “Collaboration is essential, you need to be aware of what is happening at other companies.”
