Case: protecting key data assets in public transport with a data diode

Many critical infrastructure organizations depend on disconnected systems that do not talk to each other by design. However it is often necessary to retrieve information from all of those systems, in order to be able to correctly interpret the generated data. How to go about such a task without running the risk of compromising key data?

A European Rail Network company solved this problem by deploying a one-way network connection. The company uses a number of disconnected systems to manage its signalling-systems, which are difficult to interface. As information about the current location of all trains are held within these systems, these data assets are vital for managing the whole signalling process.
