Application: Ruggedised hardware VPN solution
Classification level: DV, stg. Confi

Fox SkyTale is a ruggedized IP-crypto solution, developed for military vehicles. It combines the ability to deal with unstable low-bandwidth aerial links, and yet to perform on networks up to 100 Mbps. Fox SkyTale is fully transparent for IP traffic (IPv4 and IPv6), making it routable over COTS equipment, allowing the use of multicast, and ensuring that existing network equipment in vehicles can be used virtually without reconfiguration. Fox SkyTale is extremely easy to use. It uses state-of-the-art strong cryptography and is designed to be suitable for use at NATO Mission Confidential level.

SkyTale was originally developed with vehicular ad-hoc networks in mind. Such networks, when implemented in groups of vehicles, provide self-healing, ‘always-on’ radio-meshes. Networks without a pre-defined topology that yield an on-line experience for all of its users, anywhere in the world. Ad-hoc routers may use multiple technologies such as WLAN, UMTS and SatCom technologies (Iridium or BGAN), and switch between them based on availability, cost and need. SkyTale supports these technologies out of the box.

At the 2011 NC3A/AFCEA TechNet in Heidelberg, a whitepaper on this subject was presented. The slides of which can be found here. The whitepaper itself can be found here.

SkyTale will also be presented at the AFCEA Technet 2012 in Prague.
