Fox-IT and Henseler Forensics combine forces in Fox-IT Forensics

Fox-IT, specialist in IT security and digital criminal investigations, and Henseler Forensics, expert in E-Discovery, have joined forces in Fox-IT Forensics. Dr. Hans Henseler will become the Managing Partner of this Fox-IT business unit.

E-Discovery: electronic tracks investigation

Information and communications technology is becoming increasingly important in social and economic traffic. Consequently so is its security and tracking down digital crime. E-discovery electronic tracking investigation techniques are being applied not only in high-profile frauds like those of Stanford and Madoff involving billions of dollars abroad, but also in real estate fraud in the Netherlands. E-Discovery is the discovery and analysis of tracks and traces in information stored electronically such as e-mail, financial administration and organisation databases. This is precisely the field on which Fox-IT is now focusing with its Forensics department.

The need for E-Discovery

The exponential growth in the volume of information and its increasing complexity means traditional investigative methods are no longer adequate. A combination of business administration, accountancy and information technology is needed to track down relevant information efficiently within digital evidence, and to make it available. This requires close collaboration between the digital investigators, financial specialists, lawyers and investigators who carry out the intrinsic analysis. Forensic investigation reveals digital tracks in fraud cases and integrity investigations, among others. E-Discovery is a vital instrument to this end.

Innovation and improved client collaboration

Hans Henseler becomes a partner in Fox-IT and will lead and further develop the forensic business unit. “Fox-IT’s forensic IT experts have an excellent reputation for applying thorough IT expertise in digital tracking investigations,” he notes. “I have considerable experience in collaborating with financial and legal specialists on the smart analysis and visualisation of financial information and e-mail details. I anticipate that this collaboration will enable even better cooperation with accountants and lawyers, for instance.” Henseler’s arrival represents a unique opportunity for Fox-IT, says manager Menno van der Marel: “Hans’ knowledge and experience will further improve the effectiveness and quality of our investigations. He is also absolutely a driving force, as he has already shown at the Dutch forensic institute, the NFI. He is exactly the man to provide digital fraud investigation in the Netherlands with a new impetus. We also expect Fox-IT to leap ahead in its technical innovations.”
