SINA stands for Secure Inter Networking Architecture and was developed primarily for State Secret networks of the German Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI). The Netherlands also chose to use this solution for its classified networks.

VPN solutions are often used in commercial organizations, because of the clear benefits offered by their proven technology. SINA enables organizations to connect physically separated networks through any secured or unsecured network. These connections are encrypted to prevent tapping.
The SINA VPN solution has been approved by the Dutch Intelligence Service, the AIVD, for the security of connections up to and including the classification 'State Secret. Secret'.
